About me.

I was born and raised in and around Toronto and, apart from living for a few years in New Zealand, all my working life in technology has been in Ontario.

With an IT career that now makes me feel like technology is in my blood, I find myself thinking about the next stage in the tech evolution and what that will mean for the job seeker now and in the future.

Starting as a Systems Administrator for a web hosting company and moving through the many changes brought on by the internet, including web servers, virtualisation, and SaaS, technology is now taking a big leap forward again. A leap that hasn't happened since computers became standard in every household, and the internet allowed us to live our lives online, if that's what we wanted to do.

AI now looks set to replace many jobs or make certain tasks within our jobs redundant. I try to measure the value of AI and what it can do rather as an assistant than a wholesale replacement of humans, which I feel is still a long way off.

Like many Canadians, I've faced the impacts the US tariffs have had on the Canadian economy. I am hopeful for the future, but like so many of my colleagues, I'm having to reinvent myself and think “outside the box” for my own job search.

This led me to develop my own AI, to speed up my job search and complete faster and more targeted job searches and resumes. I've learned so much about AI, the positive way it can be used, but also knowing that when it comes to using AI, humans must remain in the loop (HITL).

I've had great success at automating redundant, menial tasks, allowing the people performing them to move on to better roles and use their time more effectively. Those tasks were assigned to reliable AI systems.

On a personal note, I live in downtown Toronto with my wife and my dog, Trixie. When I get the time, I love being out with my camera, walking with my wife and Trix, and some overseas travel, when I can.
